The 29th annual Alpine PTA Hallowe'en carnival opened in the Alpine High gym with the coronation of Queen Vicky Miller and her court. A downtown parade at 4 p.m. launches events leading to the high school activities. Notable courts and royal titles span all grades, with special sweethearts named for FFA, Future Teachers, Band, Future Homemakers, and class representatives. Doctor W E Thomson of Sul Ross Music Dept. served as master of ceremonies.

Alpine and Van Horn settle for scoreless clash on homecoming night
Alpine Bucks and Van Horn Eagles battled to a 0 0 tie at Van Horn last Friday. The game featured strong defenses with Van Horn slowing Alpine’s running and Bucks stifling Slaughter and passing. The closest move came as Eagles stalled near Alpine’s 10 yard line late. The affair capped Van Horn’s homecoming and included field upgrades and senior presentations before kickoff.

Alpine Woman Improves After Garland Auto Crash
Mrs. M. A. Buhler of Alpine is reported resting better at Baylor Hospital Dallas after surgery on both arms and other injuries from a two vehicle head on collision near Garland two weeks ago. Her four year old grandson Rex Crawford has been discharged from the hospital. The Crawfords returned to Alpine with Mrs Buhler and her daughter Mrs Crawford and two other children.

Mrs. Rabb Dies After Long West Texas Life
Mrs. J C Rabb 79 daughter of Dr P D Coulson pioneer Coke County physician and first Coke County judge died last Saturday in San Angelo. She had lived in Sterling City Montvale Cemetery and was preceded in death by her husband and other family. Mr and Mrs Coulson survived by three sons two daughters two brothers two sisters 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. They survived a Monday auto collision near Big Lake on return home with Mrs Coulson slightly injured but resuming travel in a damaged car.

Indictment Dismissed in Long-Running Murder Case
The fourth scheduled trial of T Clifton Clary ended on Monday when the judge granted a defense motion to quash the indictment. Clary is returned to Runnels county on $5,000 bond. The case, begun in 1948 over the death of his wife, may see a new indictment within 10 days.

Mrs. Eva Jane Mills 63 Dies at Daughter’s Home
Mrs Eva Jane Mills age 63 died last Saturday at the home of her daughter Mrs Leroy Roark in Alpine where she had lived since May. Funeral services were held Monday at Livingston Funeral Home chapel with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include five daughters and four sons plus sisters and brothers and 14 grandchildren. The Midget Beauty Shop marked its 20th anniversary this week.

Sul Ross 35th Annual Homecoming Draws Large Exes Crowd
Ideal fall weather accompanied Sul Ross college for the 35th annual Homecoming last Saturday. Ex-students gathered at Jackson field to see the Lobos lose to Texas A&I Javelinas, with events including an 8 to 10 a.m. registration, an assembly, open house, a downtown parade, and a barbecue at Kokernot lodge. Chas Boyles of Fort Stockton was elected president of the ex-students association. Joe Brady hosted an all-day homecoming at his home. Miss Shirley Parker was crowned Homecoming queen. The day closed with a dance by the Sul Ross orchestra and Rossettes.

Car Mows Down Poles Near Central School
Police report a Fort Davis driver Guillermo Na jar Gallegos pleaded guilty to DWI and driving without a license after his car struck two telephone poles just north of Central School on N 5th Street at about 1 30 a m Tuesday. The vehicle was wrecked but the driver and passenger sustained only minor bruises.
