Coronation to Be Held Tuesday At High School
The King and Queen of the Halloween carnival will be crowned Tuesday October 30 at 7 45 p m in the High School auditorium. Pioneer Woman Kate Evans Dies In El Paso Farm Founder Of Local Camps
Mrs Kate Evans longtime Jeff Davis County pioneer died in El Paso at 4 and funeral services were held in Valentine. She arrived with husband George W Evans Sr in 1884 near Valentine and helped establish the Boys cowboy camp meeting and two similar groups in New Mexico. Survived by nine children 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Officiants included Rev King and Rev Marsh. pallbearers were grandsons and a nephew. Interment followed in Valentine beside her husband.

Funeral Services Held Here Last Thursday For Pioneer County Woman
Funeral services for Mrs. Meddie Bennett Stillwell, a pioneer of the county, were held last Thursday at Livingston Funeral Home chapel. She died Oct. 13 at her daughter’s home in El Monte, California. Born June 12, 1876 in Uvalde, she married Will Stillwell in Marathon 19 years ago. Her husband, a former ranchman, was killed in 1918 while with the Texas Ranger force in Mexico. Mrs. Stillwell lived in Tornillo from 1921 to 1929 before moving to California and then to this city with her two daughters Mrs. W. A. Douglas and Mrs. Bernice Stillwell Sanders. She leaves five sisters. Interment followed at Elm Grove cemetery. Pallbearers included Raymond Garnett, J. W. Frazer, Cas Edwards, Joe Hord, Jim Wilson, and Guy Crawford.
