Alpine High Announces Honor Roll With New Eligibility

Alpine High School lists seven students on the top honor roll for the first six weeks and 48 on the honor roll. A new requirement sets an A average as the minimum for eligibility, per counselor Mrs. Harlan Ford. Alpine Gets Study Center for programmed instruction courses

Supt. Jack Frost said Alpine Public Schools were designated by Texas area study centers for programmed instruction and teaching machines. The Texas Education Agency will arrange study centers across the state for meetings on Monday and Tuesday evenings, April 6 and 7, 1964, at 6 30. About 125 teachers from Alpine and Sul Ross will attend, with meetings in Public Schools Cafeteria at Central School.

Needy Children Will Be Aided Trick or Treat Plan

Young people from Girl Scouts Boy Scouts and church groups will gather at First Methodist Church undercroft at 6 p m to collect pennies for needy children. From 6 to 7 p m they will ask for pennies to fund milk vaccine TB protection and vitamin tablets for hungry and ill children around the world.

Mrs Tyler Dies Here In Alpine Funeral Rites Today

Mrs Dena Blanche Tyler died Tuesday in Brewster County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 30 a m today in the First Methodist Church with Rev Clyde Chesnutt officiating. She was born March 24 1895 in Kansas and had lived in Alpine since 1935. She is survived by a daughter a granddaughter two great granddaughters six sisters and two brothers. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery. Geeslin Funeral Home in charge with pallbearers listed.

Daisy Burke Buried Here

Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy Burke 88 pioneer resident of Alpine were held at First Methodist Church with Rev C W Newbill officiating. She died Monday in Brewster County born April 6 1875 in Goliad came to Alpine in 1910 married Marvin Shelby Burke in 1896 in Goliad. She was survived by a grandson a great nephew a daughter in law and a niece and belonged to the Methodist Church the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Alpine Study Club. Burial was in Elm Grove with pallbearers and ushers named locally.
