PTA Carnival Preparations Move Ahead for October 31
Plans are complete for the manual Parent-Teacher carnival to be held October 31 with an old time dance the night before and a football game the same night. A 4:30 parade will feature all city schoolchildren followed by a carnival on Holland avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets with a cake walk and a served meal at 5:30. The PTA asks citizens to keep J C Penney to Alpine Drug corner and the SP station area clear of cars for safety and parking.

Alpine Baptists to Attend BTU Meet in Memphis
Miss Marjorie Smith and Miss Dalma Lankford of Sul Ross College Baptist Students Union will travel to Memphis Tennessee for the Fourth Quadrennial All Southern Baptist Student Conference October 27 to 30. The event, sponsored by the Southern Baptist Convention Department of Student Work, expects over 2500 Baptist students and leaders with a Christian Student March to demonstrate commitment to Christianity on Southern campuses.

Crockett Man Buys Brewster Ranches in Glass Mountains
Vic Pierce, a Crockett County rancher, purchased two Brewster County ranches totaling about 15 000 acres in the Glass Mountains near Alpine. The Edwards ranch of 7 325 acres and the R C McCollum ranch of about 7 000 acres were bought for a price around 9 6 50 per acre on a patent basis with possession to follow title perfection. Pierce already owns two or three other ranches in Crockett county.

Cozy Cave Fete Week Sale To James Sloan
The sale of the Cozy Cave in the basement of the Fuller building to James Swede Sloan was announced this week. Sloan took over management early this week and Mrs N U Stout who operated the business for over two years left Tuesday for Dallas to make her home.

Odessa October meeting of directors of the International Parks Highway association results in North Dakota Nebraska organization plans. John B. An 82inch, three ton mirror is polished for aluminum coating to show objects 900,000,000 light years away. Dr John S Plaskett and Lundin of Warner & Swasey oversee final aluminizing before shipment to the McDonald Observatory in West Texas. The mirror achieved curvature accuracy within one millionth of an inch, with testing via an artificial star.

The largest local livestock shipment moves 82000 yearling muttons from Alpine on 68 single deck cars across two trains via the S P lines. Ray Willoughby, leasing the east side of the Brown ranch, drives the operation with muttons averaging 94.5 pounds and expected to fetch about 5.5 to 6 cents per pound. Nearby, Kokernot Sons sell 3000 heifer and steer calves to Kern County Land Co and Rusk Creek Cattle Co, with 7500 to 10000 calves remaining to market this season.
