Marfa Texas October 12 The Highland Feeder sale drew about 300 feeders from twenty states. Smith Bros. topped with a grand champion steer at 12.50 per hundredweight, others sold from 10.25 to 11.75. Average prices reached 9.68, higher than last year, as calves and yearlings moved briskly despite a softer peak.

Cooking School Is Praised By Women At Granada
The moving picture cooking school Btar In My Kitchen drew over 200 women to Granada theatre last Thursday through Saturday. It was sponsored by The Avalanche with manufacturers and merchants, marking the second annual event. Attendees praised the recipe demonstrations and advertising features, with attendees from Alpine and towns like Marathon Fort Davis Marfa Fort Stockton and Valentine. Another school may be held next year. Ranch and cattle shipments were reported from Alpine to Fort Worth and to Kansas City, including seven hundred mined calves by Richardson Meriwether and seven cars of mixed cattle from Toyahvale plus 400 heifer calves. Fifteen hundred mixed sheep were shipped to Cap Yates’s ranch at Jack County Texas. Fall cattle movement is expected to continue into December.

Work on the 15 mile U S highway 9 stretch between Marfa and Van Horn is finished except for the four mile segment from Lobo to the underpass. Expected to be fully paved by early next week, enabling an all weather route from Jacksonville to Van Horn. Dedication likely mid next month with Governor-nominee W Lee O'Daniel to attend if he accepts. Publicity plans for an all weather highway 9 rollout are underway by the Highway 90 association.

Completion of Hiway 67 Gets Favor
A Brewster County delegation met Austin highway officials seeking completion of U S 67 between Alpine and Fort Stockton. State highway engineer Julian Montgomery will ask the commission on Oct 24 to allocate 10 000 dollars for right of way fencing and stock water along the route. The likely new route will head north from the Santa Fe crossing and cross the Old Spanish Trail west of Fort Stockton, near the Brewster Pecos county line.
