Sul Ross to honor five rodeo teams at homecoming

Five national intercollegiate rodeo teams will be honored at Sul Ross State College during homecoming October 29 30. The 1949 1950 1951 1952 and 1962 teams won NIRTA titles. Additional rodeo greats may be honored. Events include bonfire pep rally parade queen presentation football game and dances.

Speech Forum To Be Monday At Fine Arts Building

Survey Completed For 442000 Davis Park Development

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept reports a completed Davis Mountains State Park survey and plans for a 442000 development program. Funds cover water electrical roads campsites shelters rest rooms headquarters and lodge rehabilitation. A construction superintendent is assigned and planning advances toward detailed facility specs.

Trans-Pecos Educators Plan Americans Course

About 30 educators from nine public schools in the Trans-Pecos area met at Sul Ross State College to begin drafting a four grade course of study in Americanism. The plan calls for each school to prepare a guide by November 2 and convene again November 9 to adopt and distribute the course.

Alpine High Homecoming Set Oct 15

Alpine High School will celebrate Homecoming Friday night October 15. The events feature the Alpine Van Horn football game at Jackson Field at 7:30 p.m. A class of yesteryear queen will be honored at halftime alongside ex-students, followed by a reception in the Central School Cafeteria. Alumni and families are invited. Arrangements are through the Alpine High School Student Council and Ex-Students Association.

Judge Patterson attends State Bar meeting in Midland

District Judge C. F E. Patterson of Alpine attended the State Bar judicial section convention in Midland last weekend. Speakers included U.S. Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach and Texas House Speaker Ben Barnes. County Judge Felix McGaughy attended the State County Judges and Commissioners meeting in El Paso this week.

Art Exhibit Showcases Ziya Sever At Sul Ross

An October display in the Fine Arts Building foyer features recent works by Ziya Sever, art instructor at Sul Ross State College. The exhibit is open 8 am to 5 pm weekdays and 8 am to noon Saturdays, with multiple national exhibitions planned, reflecting Sever’s growing recognition. Local items note Mrs. George W.
