Mrs Burgess 83 long time Alpine resident died early Wednesday Oct 5 in Brewster County Memorial Hospital. She and her husband Joe Burgess came to Alpine from Abilene in 1916. He died Sept 12 1953. She was a Methodist Church member and is survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral 10 a m Friday at First Methodist Church with burial Elm Grove Cemetery Geeslin Funeral Home directing.

Alpine to Lease 40 Acres for Sewage Disposal Plant
City Attorney John Alen authorized by the City Council to draft a preliminary contract with G Bebe Kokernot for lease purchase of 40 acres northeast of Alpine for a sewage disposal plant. The city would pay 2000 dollars yearly plus an easement 30 feet wide for water and sewer lines. Executive session held before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

City Adds Policeman to Night Patrol in Houston Rise
The session voted unanimously to employ H. A. Morgan of Houston as a night patrolman for the City Police Department. Acting Chief F. I. Powers recommended the hire citing Morgan’s five years of police experience and a trained police dog.
