Rt Rev Charles J. Kinsolving II, Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of New Mexico and Southwest Texas, will preach and administer confirmation at St. Tze's Church at 7:30 pm October 8. He is assisted by Ven Robert Davis. St. James' rector. The male choir, directed by William H. Martin, will sing Evensong and the offertory. 1957 Red Cross Quota Fixed by Local Chapter
The Brewster County Red Cross chapter set a $3500 budget at a Tuesday meeting in the Chamber of Commerce building to cover community and county needs. The national quota is $1132 from that total. The chapter reported $1258 raised, $2448 disbursed in 1956, and an opening balance of $1240. Supplemental flood relief added $469. Art Gard noted $218 loaned and $871 collected on prior loans.

Old Fort Davis Days Parade and Cavalcade Planned
Fort Davis will host the third annual Old Fort Davis Days on Saturday and Sunday Oct 6-7. The Fort Davis Historical Society presents two main events the Cavalcade and the Parade plus numerous in between numbers. The Cavalcade at the 100 year old post grounds under floodlights features soldiers Indians cowboys and settlers through pageantry.

Brewster County three day antelope shoot drew 337 hunters who killed 326 antelope on 15 ranches. Capt Ray Williams of the State Game The Hunters said parties from Alpine Marathon and across Texas participated. Grady Nelson’s Alpine plant processed 145 antelope, a county record. Notables included Attorney General John Ben Shepperd and family. Only six hunting violations were reported amid 30 game wardens assisting.

Mrs. J C Bird pioneer of Brewster County died after a long illness in Alpine. Born March 11 1868 she came to Alpine in 1883 and married J C Bird in 1884. She deeded land for Paisano Baptist Encampment and owned the Bird Ranch until her death. Funeral arrangements were pending. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

A general solicitation drive for the Boy Scout fund begins with a breakfast at 7 30 a m Wednesday Oct 10 at the Holland Hotel. Frank McCollum leads the drive with 40 workers expected to attend and then canvass town to complete the campaign in a day or two. Campaign majors include Jeff Graham Bill Winter H C Hernandez and Dr C B Casey who oversees the Sul Ross State College effort. Peyton Cain Burned Boosting Webworms at Alpine Home
Peyton Cain superintendent of Alpine Public Schools suffered severe non fatal burns after a can of gasoline ignited while burning webworms at 502 East Avenue. He received treatment in a local clinic and will be unable to return to duties for about 10 days to two weeks.

Woman Entering Contest Here Is Cadillac Winner
Irene Patricia Ries of Amarillo won the $8000 Cadillac Eldorado in an Alpine contest held by West Texas service stations. She received her entry blank at Gulf Servicenter in Alpine and won yesterday afternoon. The Amarillo resident had no car before the prize and has a high school daughter and a 10 year old son. She was vacationing in Alpine last summer when she entered. Contest stations included Gulf Servicenter Alpine and Gulf Observatory Fort Davis. Cora Lee Thomas is visiting Mrs. W C Linden in San Antonio.
