State to Take Over Highways January 1 1924
State Highway Commission will assume maintenance of all designated state highways on January 1 1924 under a law from the 38th Legislature. Maintenance means keeping roads in their current condition with no extensive improvements planned due to limited funds. The move aims to address counties neglecting upkeep and ensures fair treatment for counties that have maintained good roads.
