Hunter dies and companion wounded near Alpine

On opening day of the blacktail deer season, Anony. Williams, 73, of Edorado was killed by a stray bullet while hunting on Sheriff W. N. Gourley’s ranch 10 miles south of Alpine. Joe Weathered of Midland was wounded in the leg, perhaps by his own rifle, as the pair with three San Angelo men hunted in rough country. Williams died about two hours after being struck. Weathered received medical aid and was released that night. The inquest followed, body taken home to Duval. authorities believe Weathered’s wound was not life threatening.

Citizens Respond In Roll Call Red Cross Appeal

County of Brewster witnesses limited turnout as four solicitors report totals. Terlingua leads with 28 dollars while Marathon and Alpine report little or nothing. Bucks Face McCamey Badgers In Big Rivalry

The Alpics High School Bucks, in fresh uniforms, accepted an invitation to play the McCamey Badgers at hot field this afternoon. McCamey, rated a top contender, may advance to the Interscholastic League championship. AI Drilling In This County Suspended

A sparse report indicates AI drilling activity in the county is suspended with no work started at the Alpine site yet. Nimrod duo claim first blacktail buck of season

Jim Camel and Carl Shuts of Alpice report bringing in the season's first blacktail buck seen on local streets. Disputed details say Jim shot it while Carl claims they spotted two men with three bucks in a car and warned them as game wardens. one buck allegedly was taken and the others fled. The eight point buck was considered fine eating, per hearsay.

Gordon Ware, formerly of Sabinal, has leased the Elite Cafe from Mr and Mrs W H Punk and opened the Sunshine Cafe in Alpine last week. Mrs Ware is Lois Wheat of Alpine, and Ware previously ran a cafe in Sabinal.

Hundreds of Hunters Seek Deer in Davis Mountains Opening

Port Davis reports say hundreds of hunters crowded the Bix Bend-Davis mountains area for opening deer season last Saturday. Alpine hosted large groups with many bucks observed. blacktail season runs to month end and fagtail through December. A party of about twenty guests hunted with Joe and Jim Es in Limpia Canyon area.
