Alpine will become the smallest town in the nation to join Organized Baseball next season. Herbert L. Kokernot Jr. announced a deal to enter the Sophomore League as a Boston Red Sox farm club. The Big Bend-Davis Mountains Cowboys will represent the area with Red Sox players and a non playing manager. Earle Halstead aided the arrangement. Milwaukee Braves officials say relations with Alpine are amicable but Braves have a Midland deal. League schedules expect 60 home and 60 away games with teams from Odessa Midland Roswell Carlsbad Hobbs Plainview San Angelo. For over a decade Kokernot has fielded top semi pro teams. the new club will be fully professional and owned by the Red Sox.

Moss Heirs Sue City Over Alpine Land and Damages
Moss heirs have filed suit in the District Court against the City of Alpine claiming a half interest in the tract containing the Manx well and water rights. Damages total about $10,000. The city purchased a 100 by 100 foot hill tract from Mia Mose for $1,000 years ago and a well was drilled on the site. The plaintiffs include Ethel McNail, Lacey White and husband Kay White of California, Joe Moss, Clifton Moss, Mary Adams and husband Frank Adame of San Antonio, and Gloyd Mowe of California. City attorneys AL Creigh and Hunter Metcalfo of Marfa will represent the city. Frank O. Ray is the plaintiff’s lawyer.
