Delegates from the Pecos threeday Western and Midland district Christian Endeavor gathering report the two divisions united to strengthen work. Alpine’s Fred Williams will be Western division program superintendent and Marfa’s Ruth Livingston re elected treasurer. Pecos supplied the president with two vice presidents from each former district. The Rev L W Bridges called the meeting fine and spirited. About 125 attended though 200 had been expected.
Rev. Jose Aguilar was named the Mexican Methodist pastor for the Alpine and Sanderson churches after decisions at the district meeting in Nogales Arizona on Sunday. Rev Constantino Gonzales was assigned to preach at Marte.
The Alpine area marked Armistice Day with a program at the Methodist church and a closing tribute at 11 o'clock with Taps. Local Legion members, school groups, and clergy participated, with speeches by Rev. Redman and A. B. Owens. Schools and the college closed after the observance. The American Legion held a courthouse dance to aid veterans, and local news noted farm income from chicken meat and broom corn shipments planned for fall.
The Alpine Rotary club schedules The Prosperity Party at Shokernot Lodge tomorrow night. Promises a torrid and interesting affair with elaborate preparations noted by members. Alpine Bucks travel to Sanderson for their third game of the season against the Eagles. The Bucks seek to prove they are the stronger team after a late victory over Alpine and a recent tie at Sanderson. Both teams have shown improvement. Sanderson crushed Alpine 47 to 0 two weeks ago, while Alpine rallied in the earlier meeting.
Alpine residents are urged to donate as the Alpine Relief Association launches a winter drive starting Sunday and running through Thanksgiving. Funds are low and will stay in Alpine to aid families in real need. The group also seeks clothing donations to clothe children and adults as cold weather approaches.
Prank Painter of Tampa, Florida, was taken into custody by county officers on Armistice Day while attempting to cash a post office saving certificate in Alpine. Officials learned original owner had duplicates issued in May after the originals were lost, and Painter's claim to ownership did not match documents on file.
A fundraising drive starts Sunday to raise funds for Alpine's needy during the coming winter.
