Alpine readers note a bustling town as Sul Ross alumni return for Homecoming. New businesses, downtown improvements, and a revived Alpine Public Library draw attention alongside memories of local figures and a judge’s upcoming Miami Beach trip.
The Omega Xi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held a candlelight ritual to welcome pledges at Wilda Meixner’s home. Mrs. Richard Browning and Mrs. Ross Hise were added to active membership from leave of absence. Eddie Reider spoke on life in acting and has appeared in films and TV. The Brown Ranch near Alpine was his current residence.
Mrs Sublett hosted the Lucky 13 Bridge Club on Wednesday afternoon October 28 at her home with Autumn flowers and gifts from friends. Guests included Z M Decie David Kokernot Estelle Martin Earl McElroy Vernon McIntyre J W ODonnell A R Ponton and W N Winter. prizes went to Mrs McIntyre and Mrs Kokernot. Also notes Ginny Lines moved to Houston to join Texas Children’s Hospital and Lt Richard Johnson stayed with J W Eddleman as house guest. The open house for the new library offered viewing before the event.
Alpine AAUW meets at 7 pm in the First Presbyterian Hospitality Room for a covered dish supper. Speaker Mrs. A R Ponton will report on the governor's conference on the status of women attended earlier this year.
Mrs Homer Ferguson hosted the Thursday Bridge Club at the Ponderosa for a one o clock luncheon on Oct 29. Members Mines L D Harris Vernon McIntyre J M McClenaghan Frank Newsom Estelle Martin and Dick Rogers attended with guests Mrs Earl McElroy and Mrs Montgomery Ellison. Prizes went to Mrs Harris Mrs Martin and Mrs McClenaghan.
The Avon ladies of Alpine invite guests to a coffee and Avon Christmas showing on Thursday November 12 from 10 30 AM to 7 PM at the home of Mrs Tom Karvonen 801 North 7th Alpine.
