Summer classes to aid Alpine primary pupils reform

Alpine superintendent D M Major and Sul Ross president H W Morelock announce summer classes for weak primary grade pupils from eight to twelve. Second and fourth grades to be taught, with option for first six weeks in algebra English and history. No tuition charged for primary courses, higher grade subjects carry ten dollar fees.

Italo Benedetti, Alpine's Italian band leader and longtime musician, began training at age ten and has spent forty years in music. Born in Lucca, Italy, he played as soloist in a royal Guards band, directed the Vaticas Band under Pope Pius X, then moved to America to work in theatres and bands before joining Alpine last year to form a first-class local ensemble.

Seek Federal Hatchery Near Alpine Contention and Costs

A search for a federal fish hatchery site near Alpine is pending as officials review clay soil and a 500 gallon per minute water supply. The plan foresees 35000 dollars in initial building funds and 10000 dollars annually for improvements and maintenance, with the site desired within 20 miles of Alpine to propagate crappie and bass fish. Memorial Day programs in Alpine will begin with grave decorations at Elm Grove Cemetery for veterans of World War I, Spanish American War, and Civil War. Central Power and Light plans spending about 4000 on an ice vault service platform and upgraded ice machinery to serve Ice customers better this summer. Alpine DeMolays Install And Elect Officers Tuesday Night

Alpine DeMolays held their election and installation of officers Tuesday night. Wylie Hudman was chosen master councilor for the next term of three months, replacing Larrie Miller. Truett Johnson and Joel Wright were elected senior and junior councilors, replacing Eldon McGonagill, with appointive officers also installed. The chapter has grown to 45 members under adviser Louis Starns.

City offices will relocate this week to newly assigned quarters in the Hord build. U S 67 Meet Last Week Plans Motorcade Toward Chihuahua

From Stephenville comes word that U S Highway 67 supporters met to push the route through to Chihuahua City Mexico. Delegates from nearly every town on the Dallas to Presidio corridor attended with bonds pitched for paving. About 200 men were present as Clay Holland was elected a vice president and plans formed for a motorcade in June.

Hovey Girl Dies Here Yesterday

Fimma Lucile Snaetter, 12, of Hovey, died yesterday at the local hospital after a months long illness. She had been in hospital for several operations and was brought home briefly before a final procedure. A loose blood clot caused her death. services to be held this afternoon at the local cemetery with Rev. L. W. Bridges officiating.

Mrs. Williams Dies After Fall in Waco Home

Mrs. Alex Williams of Waco and Alpine died last Thursday after a fall at her daughter’s home in Waco. The shock from the broken arm and other injuries caused her death within minutes. she was over 68, born March 1863, and left six children, two of whom live in Alpine. Funeral services were led by the Baptist church in Plantersville where she was buried.

Sul Ross Announces Higher Graduate Courses For 1931 Summer

Sul Ross will offer graduate courses in Biology Education History English and Spanish for the 1931 summer session. A minimum of three summers residence is required for the degree with two courses totaling eighteen term hours obtainable during the twelve week session.

Sixth Golf Meet Here Next Week

The sixth Alpine golf tournament draws large entrant lists from EL Pa Pecos Midland Del Rio and oil towns. Play starts Friday June 6 with matches daily through Sunday final between two survivors.
