Mrs. George Baines plans to return from San Antonio and San Marcos next week. J. Moritz is jailed for swindling after cashing a $25 Alpine Mercantile check with no funds to cover it. Mrs. T. M. Newton and family go to their Marathon ranch for summer while Mrs. Hord and family of Goliad will occupy their home in their absence. Eugene Smith won a $10 prize from the Alpine Study Club with an average of 95.6 in high school. County court closed the McSpadden case with a verdict for Mr. McSpadden. Judge Brooke served as special judge. I R. B. Slight & Co. will move into the Mitchell Gilett Co. building with two plate-glass display windows after renovations.
Rev K C Gildas Taylor and the Alpine Episcopal ladies met to reorganize St James Guild with officers elected including Mrs W J Yates president and Miss Thalia Gillett treasurer. They discussed building a chapel and a July 1 entertainment around the world. Public school commencement honors were noted with diplomas awarded.
A Sunday service is held each week at 8 p m in Woodmen Hall over Alpine Hardware store with public invitation. Also selling a good second hand saddle via Avalanche office and Caldwell's advertise wood.
