Alpine Lt Weyerts Reunited With Family After WWII Prison

Lt F B Weyerts of Alpine, captured Dec 22 1943, reports to wife Elaine Ross and their son from StaLag Luft No 1 near Berlin now with Allied troops and hopeful of home soon. He served as a B 17 bombardier and a brother was killed on the Western Front last January. Also Pvt Dan Garcia 19 of Alpine released from Stalag TIA after being captured in France November 19.

Bond Sales Lag in Brewster War Loan Drive

Bond sales in the 7 million war loan campaign begun May 14 remain weak. G W Baines, Brewster County War Finance chairman, reports E bonds barely changed from last week with under 25 percent of the $100,000 county quota sold, and about one third of the overall $225,000 quota reached.

Crushed rock is being laid on all driveways at Kam Urove cemetery under County Commissioner William Cotter’s direction. County surveyor H. R. Gard completed the survey. The North drive in the Richardson addition has been widened to 16 feet. Air Field To Enter Stand-by Status On Skeleton Crew
