Alpine High Elects Student Officers and Cheerleaders
Alpine High students elected Homer Mills as student council president with Scholastica Garcia as vice president Cam Corkins as secretary and Imelda Gallego as treasurer. Senior and junior representatives were chosen, next year officers named, and a junior varsity cheer squad formed with Susan Kokernot head cheerleader and five members planned from sophomores and freshmen.

Alpine High School holds a baccalaureate May 25 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium with Joe Reed of Alpine Church of Christ as speaker. Invoca tion by Rev. Leo Lumas and benediction by Rev. James R. Best, who also provides special music. Peggy Hardegree plays the processional. Juniors in the National Honor Society lead recessional.

Municipal Building Plans Approved For Remodeling Project
City Council approved basic remodeling plans for converting the old bowling building into a municipal complex. Col and Mrs Arlo Gill prepared the plans detailing south offices for mayor city secretary water superintendent tax dept corporation court and council room. Northern area to house police department chief dispatcher with space for Public Safety Game Dept and other agencies. Center to hold a large meeting room for 375 to 400 people. Also agreed to swap land with John Stradley to improve motel access from US 90 and to open a new street east between Stradley property and Sul Rossland. State Highway Dept must approve after negotiations. Clarence Winn urged closing several dedicated streets near the high school football field. Werner Hollis authorized to drill a well at the new sewer plant to combat grease.

District VFW Meet Opens in Alpine May 24 25
The spring District 27 VFW convention will be in Alpine May 24 25 hosted by Elpidio H. Ramos Post 7207 Alpine with O C Smith as local commander and Mrs J H Blackwell of Marfa as auxiliary president. Notables include Johny Sotello Alpine district commander and Gay Sotello auxiliary president. L N Kirkpatrick of Eden will represent Texas VFW at the meeting. Activities include registration, a 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. dance at the American Legion home, Sunday church services, a barbecue, and joint meetings at the Newman Club with officer elections for both the VFW and auxiliary.
