Austin High of El Paso won the VINI Interscholastic League track meet with 3212 points, beating Bowie and El Paso High. Walters of Van Horn dominated the heavy weight events by capturing discus, shot put, and javelin titles with top marks. Other contenders included Fabens, Van Horn, Crane and El Paso High.
About 1500 troops from border posts east of Alpine encamped Friday night en route to the Big Bend south of Marfa for extensive war maneuvers with several thousand participants. Troops travel from Bracketville in easy stages about 20 miles daily as truck trains pass through delivering supplies from the Marfa base. The army tests its most modern fighting equipment in the mock maneuvers 35 miles south of Marfa.
Warnock, a Fort Stockton native listed at 165 pounds, was chosen captain of the 1936 Lobo football squad last week in a team meeting. This marks his third and final year with the eleven, noted for his indomitable dirt and fleet, scintillating halfback play, solid defense, and blocking.

J E Good of Kermit was convicted by Justice Nick Mersfelder when ballistics linked bullets found on the scene to his rifle. Wardens traced eight deer killed in Davis Mountains last year, tested calibers 25-20 and 25-35, and matched a 25-35 rifle to a test shot. Good pleaded not guilty but chose a plea of trusty. he was fined $100 plus costs.
State Highway Commission voted 56250 for machinery and upkeep of the scenic highway from Marathon south to the Grand Canyon of the Santa Helena via the Chisos Mountains and Terlingua. The action designates the road as a state highway to be maintained by the state, with cattle wards runs and markers planned.
SP issues a new timetable affecting Alpine through service on May 3 with the Sunset Limited eastbound at 3 35 and westbound at 1 51, plus the Argonaut eastbound 3 05 and westbound 3 12. Restoration adds two first class trains each way and air conditioned equipment throughout.
The Alpine Internationals will host a three game set with a Chihuahua City club this weekend. One game is tomorrow afternoon and a double header Sunday. The Chihuahua unit is regarded as one of the strongest on the locals schedule and fans are urged to attend despite high hosting costs.

Sul Ross College will stage its annual Minstrel on May 4 directed by Ray McNeill for a second time. The regular minstrel format features six end men an orchestra and a guest list including Mrs Granger Don Sid Peters Andy the band sweetheart Marjorie Lewis Blue Note and other performers. The college dance orchestra will supply music and Mrs Granger will accompany many solos. End men have been chosen and are rehearsing their lines.
