Tornado Trackers Are in Big Bend

Charles M. Hunter reports on the Big Bend Rawinsonde station at Marfa Municipal Airport. Mgt. Samuel H. Stewart heads a seven man mobile weather unit aiding Tornado Alley 1959. The team provides upper air data to the Severe Weather Warning Center in Kansas City via radio and teletype twice daily until late May.

Mayor's Mother to Stay in Alpine for Baseball Season

Mrs. W. E. Lockhart Sr. will remain in Alpine with her son the mayor for the summer and winter, keeping the family tied to Kokernot Field. The plan confirms she has bought a season ticket and will reside at Canyon, Texas.

Second Annual Workshop for Librarians at Sul Ross

Onah Brown Rites Held At Alpine Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Una Brown were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First Methodist Church of Alpine with Rev. R. R. Reed officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park in Oklahoma City. Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Bailey, a brother in Heinesville, and a sister in Fort Smith. Active pallbearers included W. John Newell, Ralph Gray, M. L. Hopson, Leroy Larsh, Grady Nelson, and Marvin Kay.

Sul Ross Rodeo Backed by Alpine Chamber Directors

Alpine Chamber of Commerce directors express vigorous support for the Sul Ross Intercollegiate Rodeo and plan to have the mayor proclaim it. The event is scheduled for April and the meeting also notes a beard growing contest. townspeople are urged to cooperate as the rodeo is seen as a great asset to Alpine.

Lobos Open 1959 Baseball With Baylor Series

The Sul Ross Lobos begin the 1959 baseball campaign with a two game series against Baylor in Alpine on March 11, then travel to Dallas for two games with SMU. Judge C. E. Patterson's Mother Laid To Rest

Funeral services for Mrs. C G Patterson mother of District Judge C E Patterson of Alpine were held in Georgetown last week. She died Wednesday Feb 48 in San Antonio at the age of . She is survived by another son L M of San Antonio and four grandchildren. She last visited Alpine about two years ago.

Cowboy Season Tickets Go Fast for Alpine Baseball Debut

Chamber of Commerce leaders Forrest Walker and Vin Davis lead a drive to sell season tickets for the Cowboys first professional baseball season. Box seats are 50 dollars, reserveds 40 dollars, with season savings and perks including a parking space per two tickets and guaranteed seats for opening day April 27. Tickets are transferable to allow pre-issuance by firms or fans. Gene Russell, the business manager, was notified of the effort.

Drilling Continues on Pecos and Jeff Davis Co Wells

Pecos County wildcat oil well 18 miles northeast of Hovey in Brewster County drilled in lime and shale at 7970 feet. In Jeff Davis County 16 miles south of Bilmarhen Standard Espy drill site reached 510 feet in lime and hydrite.

Brewster County residents and children are urged to tell lawmakers they want Hale-Aikin school improvements funded. Mrs Bevington Reed of the local Texas State Teachers Association unit spoke at a Petos conference, noting strong legislative support but insufficient public pressure to raise taxes for the bills. She warned delays could miss the current opportunity, with Austin hearings set for Monday night and advocates urged to attend.

Del Rio Man Will Dig Up Surplus Line
