Western Texas Historical Society Lecture at Sallow College
The West Texan Historical and Scientific Society opened its tenth annual session at Sallow College with Dr RA Studhalter’s lecture on A Wit to the Yaqui Lands. He predicted the Yaqui Indians may become peaceful in the future. The day included a business meeting, research reports from multiple professors, a Jekyll and Hyde illustrated lecture, and a cultural program. Evening events featured Barry Seabee’s Story of Old Port Davis, notes on the Ann Arbor Museum’s Big Bend efforts, and a dance hosted by the Pioneer Club at the college gymnasium.

College Seeks Two New Buildings on Sul Ross Campus
President H W Orelock says Sul Ross College has applied for P W A loans totaling 150000 for a girls dormitory and a student hospital. Wyatt Hedrick of Fort Worth prepared preliminary designs this week. The dormitory will house about 81 students and the hospital costs 25000 plus furnishings and a heating plant. The Regents approved the loan request at an Houston meeting February 8. The general contract for the boys dormitory, also a P W A project, was awarded at the same session.

Regional Youth Loses Foot In Train Car Incident
H F Wolford a one year old child suffered a severe foot injury when his foot slipped from a train car step and was run over by a wheel near Alpine. The accident delayed by hours, the boy was transported to Turner hospital where his foot was amputated. Parents reside in Slippery Rock Pennsylvania.

To Operate Magnolia Station Under Lease
Davis Hinson and Bob Sharp leased the Magnolia Petroleum service station at College Avenue and Fifth Street from Magnolia Petroleum company. Fire in Orient Dairy boiler room causes minor damage
A fire in the boiler room of the Orient Dairy plant northwest of town last Tuesday shortly before noon was extinguished before major damage. The blaze started from a leak in the feed pipe of an old burner, causing only small damage to equipment and surrounding area.

Legislature Appropriates Park Money for CCC Work
The state legislature approved an emergency appropriation of 36,580 to continue state park work. A radio program devoted to Alpine will be broadcast next May evening from Station WOAT in San Antonio at 6 45 o clock. Tragic Auto Crash Claims Alpine Native’s Husband
Mrs Eugenia Dantzler Rowland learns her husband W A Rowland 36 died in a Dawson Georgia automobile crash. He survived only hours after the accident as their children Janie Lee 13 and Billy Dan 10 stay with her mother Mrs L B Starns. Body sent to Valhalla South Carolina for burial. She, formerly Miss Eugenia Dantzler, had been living in Alpine.

Baptist training school to start Monday night
The B T U training school conducted annually by the Baptist church opens next Monday night under Rev. Buren Sparks. Mrs E P Langley of Pecos leads the adult classes, Chas Chambers teaches the primary group, and Rev parks oversees the intermediate class. The program runs for one week with about 100 expected enrollment across all ages.

Youth Injured When Car Is Overturned near Alpine
Jim Ferguson, brother of Sul Ross faculty member Annie Kate Ferguson, was injured when the car he rode in overturned after hitting a cattle guard about four miles east of Alpine last Sunday night. He suffered a shoulder injury while his companion Miss Lucille Watson endured a nervous shock. the vehicle belonged to Annie Kate Ferguson, head of Sul Ross speech department, and was badly damaged.

Dust storms swept the Hiland area over the past week with a strong northerly wind and persistent sand blowing for long periods. The Monday night storm caused limited damage and visibility reduction across fields and roads as residents reported drifting sand and unsettled air.

Prominent Ranchman George A Brown Dies in El Paso
George A Brown 67 a leading Big Bend ranchman died in an El Paso hospital after an illness of a month pneumonia with complications. He came to Brewster County in 1902 and later ran Swing ranch near here and then operated Alpine ranch with the Haley firm. Survived by widow six children and relatives in Berkeley California. Funeral held at his mother's home with interment Elm Grove Cemetery.
