The First National Bank of Alpine received its charter in April 1904 after ranchmen and businessmen subscribed 25000 dollars. Initial officers included H L Kokernot president and D A T Walton cashier, with a 1905 report showing capital 25000 and deposits 96460.08. By 1962 assets reached 5.65 million.

Longtime Alpine Banker George Baines Dies at 73
The late George W. Baines born December 2, 1883 in El Paso was a longtime banker and city official. He joined Larkin Mercantile in 1903, then First National Bank in 1904, becoming bank president in retirement. He served as city commissioner, mayor, Rotary and Chamber leader, and school board member. He died November 2, 1957.
