The wildcat in northern Brewster County drilled by Texas New Mexico Development Co on the old A D Neal Ranch was plugged and abandoned at 5280 feet. The test reached 100 feet into the Devonian with only fresh water recovered. Humble No 1 Stone logged a drillstem test in the Ellenburger from 15494 to 15546 feet and, besides a water blanket, yielded 360 feet of mud and 4952 feet of mud cut water. The operator then back-acted to Wolfcamp at 9960 feet while a Wolfcamp test surfaced gas in 11 minutes with 180 feet of gas cut mud and 270 feet of distillate cut mud.

A joint installation with eight area lodges Sanderson Fort Hancock Sierra Blanca Dell City Van Horn Fort Davis and Marfa will be July 11 at Paisano Baptist Encampment 11 miles west of Alpine following a 6 p.m. barbecue.
Harry Watson a former Alpine Chamber of Commerce president and wholesale grocer died at 7 p m in Seguin He would have been 76 next July 15 Funeral services set for 2 pm Friday at St Andrews Episcopal Church Seguin burial there Watson came to Alpine in 1919 as a Waples Platter salesman and co founded Watson Anderson Grocery Co later selling out in 1953 The firm became Kim Bell Alpine He moved to Seguin with his family in 194 where he and son Harry Jr ran a stock farm Survived by wife and son of Seguin a daughter Carroll Stephens of Houston and four grandchildren.
The American Legion plans a big fireworks show Saturday July 4 between Alpine Cowboys and Hobbs Cardinals games. Jimmy Eichholtz leads a team including Fritz Weyerts Gene Hendryx Grady Nelon Sherman Newsom David Kokernot Lon Stillwell John Skinner Cliff Roark Lloyd Parks and Levin Davis. The 18 inch shells will color in midair several times with a 500 foot spread and include drawout shells and spider shell bursts timed for dramatic effect near the left field wall of Kokernot Field.
