Pierce Ram Brings Top Price At San Angelo Sale

The 19th annual San Angelo Rambouillet Ram Sale set a top price of $510 paid to Miles Pierce of Alpine for a ram from the Bright Victor line. J. T. Davis of Sterling City bought the ram. A second Pierce ram sold for $460 to Bob Scott of Colorado City.

Ray N. Morrow To Lead Alpine Lodge Masons

Ray N. Morrow was elected worshipful master of Alpine Lodge No. 766 AF and AM for the coming Masonic year, succeeding Herbert Ogle. Other elected officers include Sam D. Thomas as senior warden, Jeff M. Graham as junior warden, G. B. Crawford as treasurer, Cecil Duncan as secretary, and Herbert Oxle as tiler. Alpine Country Club will elect four new directors for three year terms at its annual meeting at 8 pm Tuesday. New officers will be chosen soon after and take office July 1. Alpine Boys to Sing in Giant Scene in Valentine

Thirteen Alpine boys from Inda Benson Adams school were chosen for the boys choir in a Giant film scene to be shot in Valentine this week. Names include Joe Molinar, Eleseo Garcia, Jimmy Gallego, Juan Valenzuela, Sabas Carrillo, Suzano Carrillo, Tony Molinar, Joe Freddie Granado, Freddie Lara, Sabino Zamarron, Manuel Ybarra, Alfredo and Ushaldo Ybarra. They rehearse daily at the Holland Hotel or Community Center. Costumes are provided by Mr Kring of Warner Bros. costume department.

San Angeloan Bids Law On Marathon Road Work

San Angelo contractor Hunter Strain was the low bidder on 17.4 miles of the Marathon Fort Stockton road with a bid of 219 428. The county has secured the right of way for the route from Marathon to Pecos County line. Nineteen miles of the road have been completed in Pecos County from Fort Stockton south.

Big Bend Davis Mountain Country Sees Strong Rains

A large rain event swept the Big Bend and Davis Mountains over the past week with widespread totals above three inches in places. The Dallman ranch north of Alpine recorded 3.70 inches in three bursts starting Thursday, while other ranches like Log an, Parr-Pate, Ferguson, Casner and Kimball saw one to two inches. Alpine towns marked heavy activity with 68 inches officially noted on Sunday afternoon, and the Rio Grande region including Terlingua Creek reported runoff. Marfa and surrounding creeks also registered meaningful totals as Alpine and Moss Creeks ran high after the weekend. The season total reached 3.13 inches, slightly above last year’s pace at this date.
