Alpine Cowboys to host Sinton in two game series

Alpine manager Tom Chandler announced star Southwest Conference pitchers Don Pressley from SMU and Toby Newton from Texas A&M will start for the Cowboys in a weekend two game set with the Sinton Oilers at Kokernot Field. The doubleheader begins at 2:30 pm both days.

Collie to Replace Aluminum Water Pipe With Asbestos Cement Conduit

W Collie of Midland will replace the aluminum pipeline from Sunny Glen to Alpine with asbestos cement pipe Century brand. The 342 mile line carried water from Daugherty and Terry wells and faced corrosion. Aluminum sections will be sterilized and rejoined while the new pipe arrives by Monday.

Misunderstanding About Brewster County Finances Declared

County Judge Felix McGaughy states in Brewster County that 129182.14 dollars in the special motors fund as of May 30 come from motor vehicle license sales and must be used for roads and bridges. Alpine Area Braces for Wet Week After Hefty Showers

Hard showers drenched Alpine and surrounding area on Wednesday noon, with rainfall between one half to 1.42 inches. Sul Ross College weather station logged 0.64 inch last Saturday and 0.56 inch on Wednesday. Local residents including Harry Carpenter on Coop Road reported 1.5 inches, while Brown Ranch 141 miles south measured 0.4 inch Tuesday and 0.1 inch last Saturday.

Pierce Ram Tops San Angelo Sale in 4-Hram Auction

Pierce Ram of Alpine led the Angelo Rambouillet Ram sale Saturday fetching 660 dollars from Edgar Davis of Abilene. A second Pierce ram sold for 430 to Joe Maddox of Sweetwater. Reynolds and Asbill of Yeso New Mexico paid 410 for another Pierce ram. A pair of Pierce rams went to Maddox for 200 each. F Morse of El Paso was the biggest buyer, exporting 45 rams for 3602.50 dollars.

Pilot Club Musical Preparations Near Avalanche Office

Preparations for a Pilot Club musical underway adjacent to the Avalanche office. The event will be July 1 in the Sul Rose College auditorium with a committee meeting, costume and makeup planning, and materials being organized. Proceeds go to Pilot Club child welfare. The contest runs June 23 to July 3 for Alpine children aged five and under, with a king and queen and other titles, no entry fee.

250 Boys Attend Camp At Paisano

About 250 boys from West Texas registered for the Royal Ambassador Camp at Paisano Encampment between Alpine and Marfa. They range from 9 to 16 years old, from District 7 of the General Convention of Texas. The camp opened Monday night and will run to lay noon, with 50 adult leaders making 300 total registrants for the largest camp of its kind at Paisano, and over 325 people were served supper the first evening.

Conductor J M Henry Dies in Alpine Train Car

J M Henry a 50 year old Pullman conductor on the No 1 westbound Southern Pacific train was found dead in his compartment about 8 pm Wednesday after the streamliner passed Marathon. In Alpine Dr John W Pate and Coroner W G Fielder declared natural death and the body was sent to Livingston Funeral Home awaiting relatives instructions.
