Palmer Coats Named Pentathlon Sweetheart for U S Team
Miss Palmer Coats daughter of Dr and Mrs Tom Coats a Trinity University graduate has been chosen as the sweetheart for the U S Modern Pentathlon team. The squad competes at Fort Sam Houston San Antonio in the world Military Modern Pentathlon meet through the weekend with events in swimming running horse jumping fencing and pistol shooting. National trials are set for Fort Sam Houston in August with international trials in Budapest Hungary the third week of August.

All Texas Air Tour Stops in Alpine on Oct 14
The 21st All Texas Air Tour plans an Alpine overnight Tuesday Oct 14. About 50 planes with 120 people will stay in Alpine as part of a tour beginning Oct 11 in Temple and ending Oct 18 in Kerrville. Sixty percent of flyers are expected from out of state.

Three Games Set for Alpine Summer Little League
Alpine Lions Club opens the summer Little League at Kokernot Park with three games starting at 5 30 this afternoon. Morrison's faces City Drug at 9 30, Methodist Angels meet West Texas Utilities at 7 15, and American Legion takes on the Tekes at 9. Eight teams compete this year with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a season ending July 15. Concessions will sell snacks and drinks. admission is 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for students 12 and older, free for under 12. Next Tuesday features Morrison's versus Methodist Church at 5 30, Casner's against the Tekes at 7 15, and the American Legion against First National Bank at 9.

Golf Tourney Set With Sixty Teams At Alpine Club
Alpine Country Club to host a two day golf tourney on June 14 and 15 with about sixty teams. Qualifying 18 holes Saturday sets the pairings for a Sunday shot gun start. championship flight plays 27 holes Sunday while other flights play 18. Favorites include Mike Powell Thad Corkins Holt Mc Gee and Ron Huckaby. Cook, last year’s top flight winner, has turned pro and moved to San Antonio. over 20 out of town teams entered from as far as Fort Worth. The course is in top shape.

Big Bend National Park marks its 26th anniversary today June 12 as Supt Luther T Peterson Jr notes. The park formed from public and private lands given to the National Park Service after a 1941 Texas appropriation of 1.5 million dollars and a 1944 dedication of 708000 acres.

Five youths arrested in Alpine burglaries and pool break in
Five youths, three 17 year olds and one 15, were arrested after burglaries in Alpine including City Drug and a municipal pool. Items stolen valued around $1,000 with radios, tapes, watches and more recovered. A fifth youth was fined $67.30 for a car battery theft. Sheriff Williams checks recovered parts for actual theft. Preservation of Central School Building Considered
The school board evaluates a request from Hugh S. White and Hallie Stillwell of the Brewster County Historical Survey Committee to preserve the old Central School as a historic structure.
