Roof Ripped From Alpine County Warehouse During Storm

A severe hail and rain storm near Sul Ross State College in Alpine caused a twister to lift the county warehouse roof behind C&S Super Mart and Monte's Service Station on Fast Highway 90. The roof was carried over two mobile homes and deposited behind the CBS Grocery with no injuries reported. Mrs M L Monta Coffman her son Billy and mother Mrs Ernest Flaherty witnessed the event from a mobile home. another trailer owned by Mr and Mrs R G El Litt was unoccupied. The Elliott family was away from town.

Alpine Partnership Golf Tournament Draws 120 Players

About 120 golfers from West Texas and beyond compete in the Alpine Country Club event. Participants travel from Del Rio Marfa Rankin Midland Kermit Lufkin Air Force Base San Angelo Queen Santa Fe Roswell Fort Stockton and other areas. The schedule includes 27 holes of best ball on Sunday with field split into ten teams per flight after 18 holes. A supper is planned Saturday at 7 30 p.m. with plates at 1 25 each.

Pre School Head Start Expands Enrollment at Alpine

Alpine Public Schools reports 91 pupils enrolled in the Project Head Start program by Wednesday afternoon, exceeding the anticipated 65. The 40 day program runs 8 a.m. to 1 30 p.m. with 20 staff and activities from breakfast to arts, health checks, fitness, and social work.

Little League Opens Tonight With Triple Header In Alpine

Camera Club Meets Friday Plans Photo Tour

The newly organized Yuce Camera Club will meet Friday night at the Chamber of Commerce Building to discuss plans for a photo tour to several Big Bend beauty spots. The tour will be open to the public and dates will be announced. Officers are expected to be elected and all photography enthusiasts are invited to attend. The meeting starts at 7 30 p.m.
