Anticipated total cost about 600000 dollars. Bid invitation to be issued around June 15 to allow bidders to inspect project conditions.

Hocus Pocus a two act comedy with eight scenes is the summer production by the Big Bend Players scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at 8 15 p m at the Community Center. May rainfall reached 2.81 inches across seven days, boosting the year total to 4.03 inches while the five month period last year stood at 1.54 inches. Local averages through 1962 run at 1.23 inches. Carpenter Wins Area II Award at Texas convention
Johnny Carpenter of Alpine FFA won the Area II Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Award at the convention in Snyder. His project is among ten area winners under state review to determine the state winner, to be announced at the July 17-19 state convention in Lubbock. He also placed third in the Star Area Chapter Farmer Contest, accompanied by VO Ag teacher Chris Kouitz.

Alpine Jubilee Fourth of July Celebration Invites Clubs
The Alpine Chamber of Commerce invites social and service clubs to join the Second Fourth of July Jubilee. Cochairs Bill Winter and Don Geeslin announce plans for games contests and athletic events for all ages. Concession booths run by Alpine clubs will raise funds for club activities. County Judge Felix McGaughy and the Commissioner's Court back the event on July Fourth at the Court House lawn.

Davis Receives Dr A H Chute Scholarship Award
William P. Davis, son of Mr and Mrs Wally Davis of Alpine, receives the Dr A H Chute Scholarship. He recently graduated from the University of Texas College of Business Administration and will report to Lackland AFB in July for six months of active duty with the Air Force Reserve.

City Council Backs Gas Project Inquiry Support
At a special meeting May 30 the council passed a resolution authorizing the mayor to inform Marfa that a majority favors an investigation into the natural gas project though no concrete plan was presented. Attending were Mayor Bill Winter and four council members plus visiting relatives and graduates from SMA and Rice Institute.
