Ben Clarkson of Central Power and Light says street lighting equipment is ordered, in stock in Dallas, and will be unloaded in Alpine within eight to ten days. A crew from Marfa will be brought in to install the system, bringing Alpine a new white lighting display as visitors arrive for the summer season.

Sul Ross College Ends Long Term Festivities
Sul Ross State Teachers College closes its long term with a Saturday reception at President Morelock’s home and a Sunday Baccalaureate sermon by Rev. Buren Sparks. Sub-College graduation exercises were held Thursday with many students receiving diplomas and certificates. The regular college commence ment starts tonight as the summer session opens next Tuesday with expected record attendance.

Mexican foreman found dead with throat slashed
Gaspart Cortez, 45, foreman at the H. J. Kokernot ranch near Leoncita, was found after an 18 hour search with throat cut. A prior mental health history was noted as authorities speculated he may have taken his own life. the body was located about 48 hours after death near the railroad track. Authorities and ranch workers aided the search and investigation.

Ezra Cook Dies After Long Illness in Alpine
Ezra Cook, 45, died after months of illness in Alpine while visiting family. He worked near Deming and recently moved here last Christmas. Married to Lot tie Yeager in January 1934, he leaves three children, Bra Glenn, Tana Hae, and Jenrold. He was a pioneer resident of the Davis Mountains area and highly respected by neighbors. Funeral services will be held at the local church with Rev. BR Necture of Valentine as pastor.

Alpine to Open New Cotton Oil Plant in September

The Alpine Memorial Day observance drew a large crowd and featured the U C Vets parade along Railroad Avenue with Confederate and Civil War veterans honored. The program included speeches at graves, military salutes, Taps, and honorary addresses by Rev. Eller and Rev. Sparks, with cooperation from the college students and local organizers.
