Reports from the Big Bend Davis Mountains region describe widespread precipitation over the past week with Alpine receiving 0.09 inches Sunday and larger totals elsewhere. Kokernot field logged 2.70 inches, Kokernot 06 HQ 1.50 inches, and rains extended from 15 to 20 miles south of Alpine through the 602 ranch with notable totals at J A Anderson ranch Hollands and Fowlkes ranches.

City Acquires Right of Way for North Fifth Street Project
The city has secured all needed right of way for the North Fifth Street improvement. Bids for curb gutter and sidewalks will open Aug 16. Deeds include extra ten feet on the east side with two owners donating land. The state will pave to 50 feet wide at no city cost. owners cover installation costs. Also noted: W. W. Leggett joins Big Bend Drug as head of prescriptions. Leggett, a Houston native, has long been a summer visitor.

More than 700 ballots were cast in Jeff Davis county Saturday, the heaviest voting in county history. County Judge William Granger won re election by 37 votes over Tom S. Redford, while Beatrice Woolley kept the clerkship with 421 votes to 255 for Mrs. F L Sproul.
