Rain Favors Some Ranches In West Texas

A week of scattered showers produced 2 1/2 inches at the Steve Stumberg ranch on Highway 90 between Marathon and Sanderson and similar totals at the Buttrill Ranch south of Marathon. Rainfall overflowed gauges atop a mountain and many draws flowed, while grass responded on Woodward and Heath Canyon properties. Local residents and visitors, including the Kokernot family and Dow Chemical manager Gene Morgan, noted improving conditions and widespread rain-induced excitement across the ranch belt.
