There are no new developments in the infantile paralysis situation as Dr. Joel Wright city health officer said yesterday. No new cases reported and Alpine residents urged to keep cool. One third of restriction period has passed. An eight year old with the malady is progressing satisfactorily. Wright urged food handling houses to prepare for an overdue inspection and warned cleanliness is a military mandate. He warned leniency will not continue. Mr and Mrs Fred Griffin returned Monday from their wedding trip to Corpus Christi and other points in the state.

County Fails To Meet Bond Quota
Brewster county fell behind on the June bond and stamp quota by 2,769.05 dollars. The county War Finance committee chair G. W. Baines reported a quota of 20,500 while sales totaled 17,740.95. Alpine Postoffice Reports 30 Percent Sales Gain
A new high in Alpine post office sales for the year ending June 30 shows receipts totaling 29,356.18 dollars, up 6,688.82 dollars or about 30 percent from 1942. Half-year gains reached 46 percent. Quartely totals are listed, with Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Parr traveling to Rochester Mayo Clinic for health treatment.

City inoculates about one hundred dogs for rabies
About 100 of the citys 1000 dogs were given anti rabies inoculations Wednesday. Dr. Hoffman Marfa veterinarian conducted the inoculations and will not return visits. Many dogs remain un inoculated and owners are advised to keep dogs off the streets until procedures are decided.

Foundation Laid for First Presbyterian Church Unit
The foundation for the first unit of the Presbyterian church in Alpine, replacing the April fire loss, was finished early this week. Rev. Fred Rogis, the pastor, said the 30 by 75 foot frame building, provided by the National Board of Missions, will be moved from Wink to Alpine in three sections and placed on the new foundation on the west side of the lot, with a second unit to be added later on the east side.

Withholding Tax Now in Effect for Payroll
A. Forrest Hope, deputy collector of internal revenue, urges employers and employees that the new withholding tax replaces the Victory tax for all payrolls beginning after July 1, 1943. Every weekly paid employee must file Form W-4 with the employer to deduct the proper amount from Saturday pay. A wife is not a dependent. Forms and instructions are available at the county courthouse office today from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. in-person requests only. Mail requests go to the Collector of Internal Revenue, Austin.

Officers Round Up Bikes In Effort To Break Up Part Stealing Racket
Alpine sheriff says a youth bicycle theft ring is targeted as officers rounded up about 40 boys and half as many bikes. The racket allegedly steals parts from bicycles and sells them to youths in need or to repair their own bikes. Several boys identified parts taken during the earlyweek roundup.
