A Boy Scout encampment for the Big Bend district will be held at the Holland ranch, south of Alpine, Valen ao, from July 29 to 31. Scoutmasters should notify Capt. James A. Murphey by July 15 of the number of attendees. six troops are listed in the district, with three in Alpine and two in Marfa and one at Fort Davis.

The Marathon Fourth of July celebration at old Fort Penn Colorado drew about 2,000 attendees for an all day event. A dance sold 152 tickets with free barbecue served both day and night. Planes to build a recreational hall at the fort, now a county park and a local beauty spot, were discussed by Marathon residents. Alpine visitors and Sul Ross students participated in the celebration.

Section Foreman Injured In Uprighting Rail Accident
RM Van Cleave, 8 P section foreman at Paisano station near Alpine, was critically injured Tuesday morning when a steel lining bar fell from a motor car. A portion struck his mouth and pierced his head, exiting behind his right ear. He was taken to Maria hospital in fair condition and later to a Houston company hospital when feasible.

City Rules Require Rabies Shots for Dogs and Cats
City officials announce dogs and cats must be registered and inoculated against rabies. A. J. Hillman, Marta Veterin, will be in Alpine on July 22 to inoculate at $1 per animal and another $1 for registration. Owners should bring pets to the city office beforehand to speed processing. The annual inoculation campaign operates under ordinance Me, 305, enacted years ago.
