Veteran Retires From SP Service After 50 Years
George W. McMullen, 70, of 724 Lamar Street, retired from the Southern Pacific after 50 years in railroading. His career began as a brakeman with B&O, included work for M. E. & T, and long service with SP from 1888. He helped supervise the construction train for the high ridge on the Pecos River built in 1913 and recalled Judge Roy Bean and early San Antonio rail life. He is noted as well known in Alpine with longtime colleagues praising his endurance and character.

Presidio Fumigation Plant Nears Completion
Reports on the Santa Fe fumigation plant in Presidio indicate completion in less than two weeks. Iron work remains for construction to support two tracks that will service three cars, enabling six cars to be fumigated at once.
