Austin draft boards have received official instructions to begin classifying males turning 18. The measure, part of a broader nationwide process, directs immediate action by local boards and outlines timelines for drafting eligibility decisions.
At a January meeting Alpine resident H C Hernandez received a Presidential certificate of appreciation for 15 years of service as co chairman and secretary to the draft board serving Brewster Presidio Jeff Davis and Terrell counties. He also earned a long service emblem. The board announced January physical examinations and a February quota, urged 18 year olds to register within five days of turning 18, and explained immediate classification of 18 year olds as directed by President Johnson.
A public forum letter from Alpine Texas Postmaster BB West thanks the Alpine Avalanche for publicizing the Postal Service Christmas Mailarty Program and promoting the Zip Code usage. The Postmaster commends the paper for helping raise public awareness of including Zip Code numbers to ensure early mail delivery success.
