Valuation survey plan explained to Alpine Equalization Board

After several days of mild weather a cold snap arrived Monday night pushing official lows to 24 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Unofficial readings dropped to 20 or below. The cold period lasted a short time with a 32 degree reading yesterday. No precipitation has been recorded so far this month.
Scouts Elected to City and County Posts in Observance
The Yucca council plans Scout Sunday activities and elections of Scouts to city and county offices. Each troop nominates candidates this month and votes at regular meetings with registration cards. Elected Scouts will accompany officials for one day on Feb. 7, learning government without administrative powers, across Yucca council areas in El Paso and Southeastern New Mexico.

Mrs Jack Davis Dies After Prolonged Illness In Alpine
Mrs Ruth Haslet Davis 47, native of Kansas born May 11 1900 in Wellington, died Sunday night at her East Avenue B home after an extended illness. She taught music at McPherson College and directed church music in Alpine First Baptist. Survived by husband Jack S Davis three Alpine children and her Kansas relatives. Funeral Tuesday at the Baptist church with Elm Grove cemetery burial and Eastern Star in charge.

Local Woman Injured In Auto Crash Near Marathon
Mrs Opal Sauls suffered cuts and bruises when her Chevrolet was wrecked in a collision on the east edge of Marathon near the park road turn off. A car with two Beeville men and a hitchhiker swiped her car on the wrong side of the road. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is recovering. The three other occupants were uninjured. The Sauls lease the Hopson ranch in the county. Another wreck north of Fort Davis killed one and injured two. truck occupants unnamed.

Sul Ross Booster To Stage Second Annual Rodeo At Jackson Field
The Sul Ross Booster club voted to stage the second annual rodeo at Jackson Field in May with dates set for May 6 7 and 8. Raymond Quigg of Marathon and Fayette Yates who helped with last year's rodeo will run this year’s event featuring 60 bucking horses and 25 bulls. Last year’s rodeo was rained out after opening night but top contestants plan to return. The club will meet next Monday to form committees and finalize plans. Girl Scout Training Course Slated January 19 to 24
A training course for Girl Scouts will be held at the Methodist church from January 19 to 24. Eight hours of basic leadership are required. Morning and evening sessions repeat the same material with separate sessions for new leaders. A Brownie program and daily workshops cover planning music crafts dramatics and folk dancing with morning afternoon and evening hours.
