Alpine Rotary Club and Alpine High School Student Council plan a chit supper at the new Central School cafeteria on January 31 to fund the Foreign Exchange Student program. Type I Sabin oral vaccine will be given without charge Sunday January 6 at the Alpine Community Center from 9 am to 7 pm. Dr W E Lockhart says this follows the first mass immunization project and urges all adults and children who took the first oral dose to attend for protection against polio. A 25 cent voluntary contribution will help cover vaccine costs. Stations will also operate in Marathon and Big Bend Park as the 1963 March of Dimes effort continues with local chairmen and donation boxes downtown. Born May 4, 1896 in Comanche Texas he was World War I veteran who moved to Marathon in 1920 and farmed near Santiago Peak. Hendryx to Make Seconding Speech for Tunnell
Speaker-elect Byron Tunnell announced that he asked State Rep. Gene Hendry of Alpine to deliver the seconding speech on January 8 for Tunnell’s election as speaker of the Texas House.
