Chism Named To New Post In SP Lines
C. C. Chism of Alpine has been named general track supervisor for the Southern Pacific Lines based in Houston. He has served as roadmaster here for years and will be replaced by Ernest Haass of Sanderson who will move to Alpine with his wife. Chism left Alpine February 20 for Houston, with duties spanning New Orleans to El Paso and other Texas SP tracks. His wife and daughters will stay at 707 N Harrison until school ends, then join him in Houston.

Plans for Texas Education Week Observed Across Alpine
Alpine schools announce Texas Education Week activities for March 2 through 6 1959 with classroom visits by parents grandparents and a Friday faculty meeting in El Paso. The high school auditorium hosts a Back To School program on Monday night featuring a stage band from Alpine High School directed by Bandmaster Leland Schultz. The program includes two band numbers a real number and an instrumental piece. Three Men Transferred After Alpine High Speed Chase
Leo Herbert Kidd 38 driver of a stolen Plymouth station wagon and two others, William Henry Twiford 21 and Jimmy Dale Myers 20, were moved from Alpine to Central Texas authorities after a 120 mile an hour chase. Kidd underwent a sanity hearing in county court and was committed to the VA hospital in Waco. Twiford and Myers were turned over to Caldwell County officers in Waco on burglary charges.

Chinese Nationalists Injured In Desert Accident Near Alpine
Chinese Nationalist officers from Formosa were treated at Brewster County Memorial Hospital this week for injuries from a vehicle crash on State Highway 118 about 18 miles south of Alpine. The men, visiting Big Bend National Park, include I. Pi Te Peng Kwang Y Shing Hwang Fook Mao Yeh Hsien and Chu Chien Kuan, who attend military school at Fort Bliss.

The Conservation Education Association highlights Alpine and Big Bend in its January newsletter. A summer 1959 conference is planned for Alpine with Sul Ross State College hosting. The issue features Santa Elena Canyon and urges members to read two Virginia Madison books before the trip. A field trip over 100 miles to Big Bend National Park is planned, with scenic drives and a stop at Prude Guest Ranch for fried chicken. Sul Ross State College, Alpine, is praised for facilities and the West Texas scenery is described as inviting for August attendance. The Woodward Ranch offers agate collecting for attendees. Former Alpine Girl Assigned To Africa Missionaries
Charles D. LeMaster of Niagara Falls New York and Rose Smith of Alpine were commissioned as missionaries and assigned to the Belgian Congo. LeMaster will serve as an engineer and Mrs LeMaster as a teaching missionary. They attended Alpine high school and Sul Rose State College. They have two children Janet and David.
