Alpine Gas Line Construction Advances to City Limits

Alpine will receive natural gas by May 1 as crews dig from Pecos wells in the Pecos valley to Fort Stockton and Alpine. Ditching, piping, and right of way clearing proceed with about sixty men employed. 20,000,000 cubic feet daily from deep wells will fuel Marfa and Alpine. Work will run five miles daily, with labor from Pecos County prioritized, and the project is being pushed to completion.

Alpine Woman Mrs Jack Phelps Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Jack Phelps aged 22 years 11 months died at Turney hospital Alpine after a ten day illness with several operations. Born March 1908 in Limestone county she moved to Tornillo with her parents and finished high school before college here. She married Jack Phelps in Sept 1927 and resided here most of the time. Funeral today at 3:30 with burial in local cemetery. Survived by five siblings Frank Cochran Fort Hancock Mrs H L Waldrum Mra William Little Dorothy and y dam xiltt Cochran of Tora.

Alpine acquires better location for trash dump

Alpine City has closed a deal for 122 acres south of the Southern Pacific tracks east of town to serve as the new city dump. Officials remind residents that dumping within 200 yards of a public highway is illegal and subject to penalties. The old dump will be cleaned up and no further dumping will occur there. The land was bought from L. T. Votaw and lies east of the stockpens.

Conoco to open wholesale fuel plant in Alpine

K 8 Yarbrough, newly in Alpine from Barstow, represents Continental Oil Company. He says officials plan to enter Alpine, secure tanks and an office site, and build a station with Pavement pumps. District trips indicate potential monthly gallonage of 1,000, prompting over 80,000 dollar Alpine investments.

Mrs Clark Dies After Long Illness in Alpine

Bertha Mae Clark 33 died at her home in south Alpine after a lingering illness. Interment was at Grove cemetery with Rev. J L W Bridges and Rev. J S Batey officiating. She and husband Mark Clark lived in Alpine six months. he drilled water wells nearby. Born 1897 in Texas, she married in 1914 and had four children J N Gladys Geraldine and Junior. Surviving: husband, four children, M F Etheridge of Dallas, sisters Olle Livesay of Fort Worth and J D Chambers of Wichita Falls.

Few Court Cases Heard This Week in Sardjuudietal District

Regular February term court in Sardjuudietal district hears only one jury case, sentencing Lily Moon Alpine negress to two years for burglary at W H Caldwell home. Several divorce judgments returned for plaintiffs. Jury investigations ongoing, with murder cases connected to Pedro and Carias Garcia double killing to be tried but likely dismissed for lack of evidence. one prior trial ended in acquittal.

Cage Journey Planned Here For March 6 7

Mrs Diana Hinson dies at 89 in Ate Pino area

Mrs Diana Hinson longtime Ate Pino resident died Thursday at her son's home aged 89, just shy of 90. Funeral services were held at the residence with Rev J T Redman of the Methodist church officiating. Born February 19 1841 in Kentucky she joined the Methodist church over 50 years ago and remained active through later years. Survived by three sons P D Hinson of Alpine Joe Hinson of Terlingua Elbert Hinson of Presidio and several grandchildren. husband preceded her in death about 12 years ago in Alpine. Three daughters Flora Inez and Biffle died years ago.
