Three men sink the first shaft on the honors claim adjacent to Young mine where ore reportedly runs high. Production planned for lead and silver with shipments to El Paso. The Gleim mine, southwest of Shafter and a producer since 1885, was acquired by Calumet and Arizona after good ore at 300 feet. Regenold’s property reportedly spans about 3000 feet of dike across. Death of Jack Phelps Aged 34 At Home
Jack Phelps 34 was found dead in a North Fourth street home by Mr and Mrs Hugh Waldrum after visiting his wife at Turney hospital. A .22 rifle lay on the floor and a note suggested he died by his own action in despair over his wife’s condition and his own health. Phelps born Alpine December 5 1896 lived most of his life here. Survived by wife two brothers and two sisters. Funeral from home conducted by Rev L Bridges with burial in Elm Grove cemetery.
