Prices of cattle should rise some further in 1958, says extension economist John McHaney, but 1958 gains depend largely on the general level of business activity. Cattle and calf inventories fell to about 2,000,000 head on Jan 1 1958 from 95.2 million a year earlier, reducing slaughter and beef output.
