Facilities For 750 Girls Are To Be Added
Camp Mitre Peak in Fort Davis will double its capacity from 365 to 750 girls in summer sessions by 1961. Five sessions yearly host 70 to 75 campers. expansion plans call for 150 girls per session by 1961. Committee members and district directors met to tour the camp site, study layout, and outline long term development for Permian Basin and neighboring areas.

Southwestern Bell crews start stringing a telephone line from Alpine to Ele phant Mountain near Jackson Field. Brewster County Memorial Hospital Board Reappoints Three Members
The Brewster County Memorial Hospital governing board had Forrest Walker James Crawford and Earl Clark reappointed by the Commissioners Court. Their new two year terms run through December 31 1959. The court also authorized County Judge Felix McGaughy to issue a 2000 dollar maintenance check for February operating expenses.

Park Work Underway in Big Bend National Park Campground
The J. D. Burk Construction Company begins a Mission 66 project in the Chisos Mountains Basin campground. A 16 by 24 foot comfort station, septic tank, water and sewer lines, and 30 campsites are planned with two new National Park Concessions buildings to be occupied this summer. Bid invitations for approach and circulatory roads go out with openings on February 20 in Santa Fe.

A Brewster County ranch horse tested positive for rabies after eight months with a daily workload and pen confinement. Veterinarian Paul Weyerts stated the horse, owned by a rancher about 20 miles northeast of Alpine, showed illness while in use, indicating the disease remains in the region and precautions are advised.
