Ancient rock writings draw visitors to Maverick Springs

Journal notes a prospecting excursion near Terlingua creek with I A Dewees at Maverick Springs. Hieroglyphics carved on red rock blocks are described as non Indian in style, with large campsites and tool marks nearby. Some stones show defacing by later visitors. the party also reports ore work by McKinney Bros and a local institute event with teachers and music at Marfa.

Teachers Institute Convenes in Alpine February Meeting

The Tri County Institute of Presidents met in Alpine February 6 7 with strong attendance. Miss Wilcox of Marfa led discussions on percentage while Mr Cawthorne from Templeton ranch shared ideas. Friday patrons night featured papers by Miss Mabel Bloys and Miss Turner of Alpine on aims benefits and cooperation between teachers patrons and pupils.

Orient Road line filed maps for Texas stretch

Judge H Herd of Sweetwater filed with the Railroad Commission the maps and profiles for the permanently located portion of the Texas Oriental road between San Angelo and Sweetwater, seventy six miles, with about a third graded. The Colorado Valley grade was abandoned. crossing the Colorado River near Bronte forty miles above Ballinger is planned and a town to be built there. A citizen of Sweetwater and a Texas Orient agent say an oil mill will be set up at Sweetwater. none exists west of Cis.
