Early Sunday morning Alpine woke to a fire alarm about 3 o clock. Firefighters rushed to the scene but found no fire after a thorough check. The source of the alarm was reported to be southwest of the power plant.

Garnett of the Palace Pharmacy closed a deal Monday for the F. W. Weber residence north of the city school campus. The Webers moved into their new home Monday and left the same day for Utopia where they will reside.

About half the Baptist Sunday school members attended a rally in Marfa last Sunday, lowering Alpine’s attendance to 68 compared with the usual 135. The previous week’s four Sunday schools reported 410, with the Christian church rising to 4 and Presbyterians at 65, while the Methodist led with 160 the prior week.
In Fort Davis on the Jones farm, oil appeared in a water well drilled 120 feet deep after years of faint oil traces. Sam Woolley and local workers found several feet of oil at the bottom, with underground seepage suspected as the source. The Alpine city commission endorsed the Chamber of Commerce lighting project after a Tuesday night session. A modern system with 200 to 260 watt lamps will line College Avenue from Sul Ross to Lith Street and extend along College Avenue north to Fourth Street. The Central Power & Light Co will install and maintain the fixtures at no extra cost, with the city paying about 45 dollars monthly for about 25 lights under a 10 year contract.
