New Dump Grounds Urged and Boyd Resigns at Alpine Board Meeting
At Tuesday's city council meeting Mayor Bill Winter and members discussed closing the current dump site and creating a new entrance across SP tracks. A 200 acre area near the airport was proposed for industrial use while the old site would house a large trash pit. Alpine High School coach and athletic director Joe Boyd announced resignation to take Sweetwater post after a 26-6 record over three seasons. The board also accepted Mary Winn's resignation, hired Ramey Compton as Central School teacher, approved two year contracts Mancill and Forbes, added an attendance officer, and funded new desks for 1966 67.

Phone Service Begins Sunday On Big Bend Line
Service will begin at midnight Sunday February 13 on Big Bend Telephone Co line system. Exchanges will join Southwestern Bell System and dial service will be available for 250 new subscribers across a vast West Texas rural area from Langtry to Terlingua and Lajitas. Lines must be strengthened to serve 30 more customers.

Cathedral Mountain Lake project seeks lake memberships
Lake memberships are open for a proposed Cathedral Mountain Lake on the Brown Ranch 15 miles south of Alpine. Steering committee member Charles DeBarbrie says Farmers Home Administration plans a Soil and Water Association loan to a non profit with at least 750 members. The plan cites a 100 foot dam across Calamity Creek with spillway roads and bridges. the lake would cover 400 acres and reach 600 feet in height.
