About 100 citizens attended a hearing at the Junior High school on a plan to finance a right of way purchase for rerouting U S 99 through the west part of town. Proponents proposed a $20 000 bond backed by city guarantees or a county obligation of 15 000 paid from road funds, while delaying a road district election if possible. Officials noted options were obtained from most property owners, with final costs estimated not to exceed 20 000, and discussed route changes desired by the state highway commission to remove two turns and the dangerous railroad underpass.
