Newbury to join TarrantJunior College on June 1
Fort Worth Texas announces that Newbury, 29, will become director of community relations at Tarrant County Junior College effective June 1 1967. A Sul Ross State College journalist and former Lone Star Athletic Conference official, he holds BA from Howard Payne and MJ from the University of Texas. He plans part time doctoral study. He and Brenda Pack of Alpine will move from Alpine to Fort Worth.

Sewer Rates Readjusted In Alpine City Council Action
The Alpine City Council readjusted sewer rates effective April 1, 1967. Dwelling Class I large residences pay $3 per month plus 25 cents per extra fixture. Class II small residences pay $2 per month with 25 cents per additional fixture. Class III motels hotels and dormitories pay $1 per month per unit with 25 cents per extra fixture. Apartments with 10 or more units are billed at 80 percent of total units to allow 20 percent non occupancy. Commercial Class I minimum $3 for first 10 fixtures plus 25 cents per extra fixture. Commercial Class II rates apply to colleges schools and industries under a special contract or outside city limits with a 30 percent increase.

Alpine High School Coronation set at Sul Ross Auditorium
The annual Alpine High School Coronation will be held at 7 30 p m Saturday February 4 at the Sul Ross Auditorium. Miss Margaret Jo Rains crowned queen with Monty Wayne Bryant as escort. Tickets 75 cents adults 50 cents students. Rehearsal Friday 6 30 to 8 30. After the ceremony the queen invites students and dates to the Central Cafeteria for a bar. The New Breeds of Midland will provide music.

Alpine and Brewster County Seek Public Hearing on Highway 99
Texas Highway Commission hearing requested in Austin by Alpine and Brewster County delegations led by State Rep Gene Hendryx for turning U S 99 into two one way routes. Alpine High School Overcrowding Prompts Expansion Needs
Alpine Public Schools face continued enrollment growth with 400 students in a building designed for 225. Since 1958 1966 grades 7 12 rose from 359 to 517 and high school overcrowding limits core subjects and vocational offerings. Officials moved offices downtown to free space for classrooms.

Astronauts Here in 64
Two of the astronauts burned to death at Cape Kennedy last Friday visited Alpine and the Big Bend Country in 1964. Roger B. Chaffee joined 16 astronauts here April 2 and 3 for field geology training for the moon mission, Edward White and eight others visited April 15 and 16 for similar studies. Gus Grissom did not make the trip due to Gemini duties.

Brewster County Registers 2101 Voters Ahead of Deadline
A total of 2,101 Brewster County residents received voter registration certificates at the tax collector’s office before yesterday’s deadline. Registrants will be eligible to vote in city, county, school, state and special elections in 1967.
