Sul Ross State College hosts Wayland College for a Friday night game. The Lobos open Lone Star Conference play at Howard Payne on Monday January 4 and travel to Southwest Texas, Texas A&I, and St Michael's in early January. The team returns home June 26 for a conference tilt with Howard Payne. Mr and Mrs Burr Thornton of Amarillo spent Christmas with Mrs Pearl Thornton and Miss Marjorie Thornton and the White side families.

Death claims Rev. Dirks of Ft Davis on quail hunt
Rev. Herman E. Dirks pastor of Fort Davis Presbyterian died of a heart attack Saturday afternoon while quail hunting on the Willis McCutcheon ranch northeast of Fort Davis. He was 1 miles from town and died in his car. Survived by two daughters, two grandchildren, five brothers and one sister. Burial at Hillcrest Cemetery with services led by Rev. Paul Stevens and assisted by regional ministers. Flowers omitted. donations to a memorial fund welcomed.

Patrolman Carl Williams Jr. reports a holiday district accident on U.S. Highway 62 east of Alpine. Conrad Henry Werner, owner of Alpine Saddle Shop, suffered a broken right leg while Mickey Logan, UT student, and a Brewster County Motors driver Bake Turner sustained cuts and bruises as two cars, a 1949 sedan and a 1966 Lincoln, collided and were demolished. No charges will be filed as Werner turned into the path of the other vehicle. Local residents Mr and Mrs Jal visited their son Joba in Houston during the period.
