Under the American Legion Auxiliary sponsorship 450 pounds of candy new and used toys and clothing were sent to the retarded children at the Austin State School. Wreath sales funded gifts a therapy game table and a scholarship for special education and local needs for handicapped children. Mr and Mrs Milton Smith served as clearing agents for years. Mrs Ben G Holmes died in Abilene December 8 with funeral services December 9 at Elmwood Memorial Park Abilene.

Davis Named District Attorney for Third District
Davis Sorman sonny Davis of Marfa has been named district attorney for the third district effective January 1 1960 by Gov. Price Daniel. He succeeds Lucius Bunton who resigned to join a Odessa law firm. Davis previously served Presidio County as county attorney 1947 1956 and was U S commissioner last June. He is a Marfa native with a Baylor law degree and holds several bar association positions. Easterwood Rites Held for Brewster County Pioneer
Funeral services for Thompson Dixie Easterwood, longtime Glass Mountains rancher, were held at the First Christian Church in Alpine with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery. He died Sunday at his sister’s home northeast of Alpine after living in Barnhart and Red Rock areas. survived by a son, five sisters, and a brother.

President Bryan Wildes announced two 1960 construction projects totaling 860000 for Sul Ross State college. A 230000 dormitory for 100 boys and a 350000 gymnasium will be built with funding partly from a housing loan and college funds. The projects include a U shaped dorm with a director's apartment and a 40 by 60 study recreation area, plus a new gymnasium to enclose the swimming pool for year round use.
