White on Tour of Pacific regions for briefing and visit

Congressman Richard C. White left Washington on December 26 to join a State Department led group touring Vietnam New Zealand and Antarctica. He will meet servicemen inspect military operations report findings to the Interior and Insular Affairs and Science and Astronautics committees and discuss a Pacific War Memorial National Park on Guam. Christmas dinner guests listed include multiple relatives and friends from Dallas Blooming Grove El Paso and Alpine.

Sul Ross Singers Launch 13 Day Central Texas Tour

The Sul Ross Chamber Singers depart January 3 for a 13 day tour covering 15 Texas cities with 26 performances. The 16 member group including a flutist and clarinetist, directed by Ross Hise, opens at Alpine High School and visits Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio venues, Waco, Georgetown, Temple, and Fort Worth among others. The tour schedule lists performances at schools, bases, churches, and public venues with several times noted.

Alpine faces major 1968 election year across city county

Alpine voters face a full election slate with council seats up for grabs and mayoral posts to be filled. Terms for several county officials including commissioner and sheriff expire at year end, and four Alpine School District seats will be contested. The first and second primaries are scheduled for May 4 and June 1 respectively.

Highway 90 Paving Planned From Alpine to Pecos Line

County Judge Felix McGaughy says the Texas Highway Department will overlay 55.69 miles of U.S. Highway 90 from five miles east of Alpine to the Pecos County line with asphalt and shoulder seals. The project aims to boost load capacity and ride quality with minimal 2 mile travel disruption at a time. work may start in January under Resident Engineer Sid Surratt.
