County Offices to Be Filled in 1962 Directors Election
Frank McCollum chair of the chamber nominating and election committee says ballots are heavy for the four new directors to replace Kay Coggins Beard and McCollum. Ten names on the ballot as four were tied for seventh and eighth. Ten nominees include Alfie Carpenter DeBarbrie Hudgins Strom Goodman Wotan Brady Schulze Frost. Final ballots due January 6 with new officers to be chosen January 8 and announced January 22 at the Holland House banquet.

Texans brace for January draft quota drop in 1962
Local Board No. 14 covers Terrell Brewster Jeff Davis and Presidio counties. One man will be drafted in January 1962 and Francisco Leyva is forwarded for induction. Nine area men were sent for pre induction exams including Jerry Monroe and Leone Gonzales. The state quota drops to 440, down 121 from December, with about 4,000 to be examined and most draftees aged 22 on January 1 unless volunteering or delinquent.

William Crawford Allen Jr. 46 died Friday when his Piper Cub for Big Bend Flying Service crashed on Wilson Barr ranch near Crane during a coyote drive. He logged over 10 000 flight hours and served as WWII flight instructor. funeral held Alpine First Baptist Church. He is survived by wife Margaret Scudday, two sons, and his parents.
